I do think that I've had my fill of romance novels for awhile, even though I did enjoy my latest read. I like the fact that some romance novels are starting to be written like 'regular' fiction books instead of pure, ridiculous fantasy. The Christmas Gift, Nov11 1745, by Darlene Gardner, a Harlequin Super Romance.
Alex Costas has never left his home town out of guilt and family obligation. He's built a life and a career.
Krista Novak wanted to see the world and family was not going to stop her from doing that. She has made new friends and loves where she lives.
It's been years since these two have seen each other and the sparks are still flying. Who is going to give in first? Who is going to stay and who is going to go?
I enjoyed the book because it shows that you can follow your dreams and still be a part of a family. You don't have to give up on your passion for someone else. Sure there may be consequences but you should at least try before you say "I can't" or I'll never be able to".
No x-rated love scenes. Sometimes they are not necessary, in my opinion. We all get what's going to happen.
Christmas may be over but it's a good pick me up in the middle of a drab January or February.
I give The Christmas Gift 4 out of 5.
P.S. Be safe out there tomorrow night. Keep a couple 20's in the bottom of your shoe as a backup for a taxi. Stay at a friends house. Utilize your local bus service for free rides home. No drinking and driving please. We all want a good start to the new year. See you next year!
