My DIY Season, 2016 has officially started.
~Coffee creamer. I finally got rid of the commercial, chemically filled stuff. Which has been my aim for years. I found a Canadian company, Happy Days Dairies LTD., for my powdered milk supply. They are located in Salmon Arm, BC. Why not cow's milk? I'm lactose intolerant. I would be lying if I said I wasn't conflicted about consuming goat's milk, or goat's cheese, because I do not eat goat's meat.
~I can't eat an animal that I might have on my land some day. If you don't know, I'm more than a little obsessed with goats. I will be making a trip to one of the Happy Days Dairies locations, to check out the operations, sometime in the near future, so I can see for myself what is going on. So far, I'm content with the information given.
~I tried my coffee with just the goats milk powder, and while it didn't taste bad, it was just okay. My tastebuds are not used to the real stuff, any longer. The addition of the coconut oil, I'll assume the sugar is just personal preference, made all the difference in the world. It mimics the taste of the commercial dry coffee creamer, almost to a tee. Bonus for me! I did use a mini whisk to make sure that there were no lumps, in my coffee. There are tons of recipes online, but I modified mine from those, to what you see below.
~2 cups powdered goats milk
~1/4 cup coconut sugar, Yupik Organic Coconut Palm Sugar, 1Kg (amazon.ca)
Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Coconut Sugar, 16-Ounce (2 Pack) (amazon.com)
~3 tbsp. melted coconut oil, (flavourless & odourless variety.) Spectrum Coconut Oil, Organic Refined, 414 gm (amazon.ca)
Spectrum Naturals Organic Refined Coconut Oil, 14 oz (amazon.com)
~Blend it in a food processor or a blender, put in a resealable container. That's it! (I let the container sit open for about an hour, because the bottom was a bit warm. Next time, I'll make sure the coconut oil, is cooler before adding it, to the powder.)
~Pot gardening has begun, indoors. From the seed this time, instead of from a small plant. Well, so far, not much is happening. I've started, some green onions, garlic, hot peppers, and an assortment of herbs. I'll keep you updated.
~That's it so far. I haven't had much fun, because work is thankfully taking up my days. Oh, I forgot I think I'm going to see Batman vs Superman, this weekend. I love superhero movies! Zootopia update: It was amazing! I will be adding it to my DVD collection.
