4-6 servings

Sorrel Drink For The Holidays


  • 1 cup dried sorrel
  • 3-4 cups cold water
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1-2 slices of orange peel, fresh or dried
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1-2 thick slices of ginger
  • 2 strips of mace
  • simple syrup to taste


  1. Add all the ingredients but the simple syrup to a heavy bottom pot.
  2. Bring to a boil. Cover & simmer for at least 45 minutes.
  3. Let cool slightly before transferring to a glass container/bowl.
  4. Leave in the fridge for at least 6 hours, up to 48 hours.
  5. Strain & add enough simple syrup to your liking.
  6. You can add some rum or other adult beverage of your choice.
  7. You can also serve this hot. Reheat slowly on the stove or in a crock-pot.
