It's #FamilyLiteracyDay and that makes me remember, when my love of reading began.
I was about 7 years old (I could be off by a year or two) and summer break had just started. My mom told my sister and I, that for every book that we read, we would get 25 cents at the end of the summer.
I don't remember the exact number of books that I went through, but I know my love of reading began then.
One of my favourite genres of books, was animals. Specifically horses. I was obsessed with horses. Seriously, I would dream and day dream about the day when I could have one of my very own.
I read every horse related book in the school library and at the public library branches, that I could. So you can believe that I was severely disappointed when the books ran out, before my interest did. Actually I still love horses to this day but as an adult, I know how much work they are. So I still have to admire their beauty and majesty from afar. Maybe some day...
Well, the summer came and went and we never did get our 25 cents per book, but I did gain a love of reading.📖 So, I guess that makes up for it.
What were/are some of your favourite books growing up?
Check out some of these titles that your little ones may enjoy. One of the newer books series that I love for kids is, Splat The Cat. Discovered by my sister for one of our little cousins. One of many favourites from my childhood is, A Bag Full of Pups . Which by the way, is still on my bookshelf to this day (look up)!
