• This has been a busy but productive week. I am glad that it's almost over with. For the next 3 days I am not obligated to be anywhere, unless I choose so. Which is a nice break from trekking in the ice/cold/snow. Watching the action from the window is good enough for me.
  • I also think that it's going to be a snowy weekend which isn't so bad because with snow comes warmer temperatures. A little warmer anyway. Not snowman worthy snow, but easy on the shoulders & back when shovelling snow.
  • Update: The squirrel situation will hopefully be resolved soon, but in the meantime... I swear she was "talking" to me through the vents. I've never heard her make any vocals sounds until today and when I said something she would "answer" back. Nervy sucker. Enjoy it rodent, you will be gone soon.
  • I've decided that I'm going to do my best to submit one writing submission (contests, local opinion papers, etc.,) per month for 2013. I've been told that this is an ambitious feat but I'm giving it a try. I may not make every monthly deadline, but I'm going to give it my all. Although submission work will probably have to wait for the weekends.

Till next time,

So Much for My Happy Endingby Kyra Davis, 2006. Yes, I'm late to the game but that's how I am sometimes. If you like fictional, romantic, comedy, with a little bit of crazy this may be for you.

April's life is not exactly how she planned it. She is not the fabulous art dealer, working downtown, that she always thought she would be. Instead she's a manager in a major department store, only because it pays the bills and is relatively easy for her.

She has met the man of her dreams. Fallen in love and decides to marry him far too quickly, without really knowing him. Life quickly turns into a nightmare, when April's perfect husband starts showing his "other" side.

I have to be honest, I was not impressed with the main character. Her likeability only went up during the last few chapters. Maybe I was just projecting what I wouldn't put up with and getting mad at the character for not having more backbone sooner.

The husband was a hot mess from the beginning and would never have been given a chance to become my husband because of the huge red flags, flying out of his butt. The supporting characters were the saving grace of this novel. They were funny, witty and real.

One of the reasons that I finished this book was because I'm stubborn and I hate not finishing something that I've started.

The other reason is because I really enjoyed Kyra Davis's next three novels that I listened to first, via audio book. (The Sophie Katz novels: "Vows, Vendettas and a Little Black Dress", "Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss" & "Obsession Deceit And Really Dark Chocolate".) I love audio books, if you didn't know that already. I've listened to them all dozens, upon dozens of times, each. So please don't let my review of So Much For My Happy Ending deter you from giving her other novels a chance.

I give So Much for My Happy Endingby Kyra Davis a 3/5.

  • Still plugging away at my short story and another submission to a magazine. I'm also struggling to get decent freelance gigs. It's amazing how nervy some of these potential employees can be. For example, you'll put in 25 hours on a project and some of them want to pay you $20. It's ridiculous. Getting work at decent pay is hard in the freelance world, especially when you're new. Anyway, that's enough whinging about that for today. I think I need to make myself take a week off, or some days off for the next 2 weeks until the new year. Who knows? I'll play it by ear. Although I'm going to get some professional help to revamp my resume, yet again.

Are any of you burnt out, or just in a hurry for 2012 to be over with?
