It's #FamilyLiteracyDay and that makes me remember when my love of reading began.

I was about 7 years old (I could be off by a year or two) and summer break had just started. My mom told my sister and me, that for every book that we read, we would get 25 cents at the end of the summer.

I don't remember the exact number of books that I went through, but I know my love of reading began then.

One of my favourite genres of books was animals. Specifically horses. I was obsessed with horses. Seriously, I would dream and daydream about the day when I could have one of my very own.

I read every horse related book in the school library and at the public library branches, that I could. So you can believe that I was severely disappointed when the books ran out before my interest did. Actually, I still love horses to this day but as an adult, I know how much work they are. So I still have to admire their beauty and majesty from afar. Maybe someday...

Well, the summer came and went and we never did get our 25 cents per book, but I did gain a love of reading.📖 So, I guess that makes up for it.

What were/are some of your favourite books growing up?

Check out some of these titles that your little ones may enjoy. One of the newer books series that I love for kids is Splat The Cat. Discovered by my sister for one of our little cousins. One of many favourites from my childhood is, A Bag Full of Pups. Which by the way, is still on my bookshelf to this day (look up)!

I don't splurge very often, well not at all really. But I did this week and I'm so happy with my purchases. From Amazon.ca & of course on sale.

I can't remember the last time I purchased anything full price. I do wish I could support my local book stores all the time but right now that's not possible. Even when I shop locally it's always on sale.

$45 for 1 hardcover? (If you've read anything I've written prior, I collect hard cover books for my future library.) Maybe publishers could do a special edition for the higher price? Who knows. I realise authors need to get paid but $45 is not realistic for so many people. $45 could pay a small bill, buy some groceries or put gas in your car. I'll have to remember this when I'm selling my own books in the future.

Anyhow, the purchases:
Underworld Rise of the Lycans. I love the franchise. I'll get the 4th installment on sale of course.
To Tame A Land. Louis L'Amour is great. If your into western's he is one of the best.
Peril at End House. Agatha Christie, one of the best as far as I'm concerned. The character of Hercule Poirot in one of my favourite stories.
The A.B.C Murders. Another Hercule Poirot, the Belgium detective at work.

What things do you like to splurge on? Books, concerts, dinner out, vacations?
