And it's done! Kai's annual vet visit is just as stressful for me as it is for her. But it is a necessity. Probably made stressful because it was with a new office. I didn't have the greatest experience at her last vet, so I'll admit I went in a little leary.
I brought my tablet for pictures because I didn't want to fumble with my camera or risk dropping it if I needed to tend to Kai.
Office: A nice open, clean space, despite the current renovation. The footprints on the floor are a cute touch. Everything looked clean. No bad smells. A little older but nothing was falling apart or peeling off of a surface.
Staff: From the phone to when I went into the office, I was happy with everyone. When I went to the appointment I only had to wait for about 10 minutes before I was in an examine room.
The vet tech took down all the pertinent information. Did an exam of Kai, without stressing her out. She answered my 100 questions, with patience. Very friendly and open, especially when I let her know what I did not like about Kai's previous vet.
The veterinarian was great as well. He answered all of my questions and elaborated on some issues. There was not a heavy sale on shots or treatments, that many offices will try, to get even more money from you. He asked about me and volunteered information about himself. I want to know a little about the person who is going to put my baby under general anesthesia, in the future.
In total I was in the exam room for almost an hour. I had a lot of questions and concerns! I was not made to feel as if I was bothering them or asking too many questions.
Kai: She calmed down after the vet was in the room for about 10 minutes. He and his staff were great with backing off when she was getting agitated. But she was more than happy to creep back into her carrier, for good, and get the heck outta there!
Me: Relieved that this year's visit is over and she is healthy for the most part. Her teeth, which are not so great but fixable, are up next. Cha-ching. February is pet dental month & many veterinarians offer 20% off. Check your local vet to see if they have any spots left for the month.
Conclusion: So far, so good but if they mess up or I become uncomfortable with her care, (like with the previous vet) I will find a new one. Ah, the things we do for our fur babies!
