Vegetarian egg rolls, haven't made them in years. Delicious.

This year has been quiet, just my sister and I. I made some of our favourite dishes and we ate in our pajamas. Family get-to-gathers are great, but quiet holidays can be just as fun.

For me the holiday has to do with being thankful to the farmers for doing the work that I don't want to do. I don't want to raise and slaughter animals. There are no days off. No sleeping in. The cows don't care if your sick or in pain.

I have no desire to grow and grind my own grains. Nor do I want to deal with the harvest of the majority of my fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes or eggplant are easier than the majority of fruits and vegetables to try and grow successfully. Plus, I don't live in a place with moderate to hot temperatures the majority of the year. Thank you dear farmers.

Stir fried veg over rice.

I also have to say that it has nothing to do with the pilgrims and the slaughter of the aboriginal people. I'm not celebrating or being thankful for the decimation of a people. I've had this argument thrown to me over the years and I'm still astounded. I don't think most people even think about that reason for the holiday. Whether you do or don't we live in a free society so you get to decide what you do or don't do for the day. I choose to turn something negative into something positive. Thanksgiving is a celebration of the end of fall harvest.

I'm thankful that I get to spend the day with friends and family (except for this year) that I wouldn't get to see otherwise. Why not use the day or any other holiday to catch up?

General Tso chicken, I have it once a year & it's worth the calories.

So I think I'm going to start calling Thanksgiving, Fall Harvest or just Harvest. Say a blessing, be thankful for what I have and call it a day.

What are you thankful for this Fall Harvest? Traditional reasons or not?
