- Today is World Blood Donor Day. Saving lives and/or improving the lives of others, is an awesome gift, that most of us can give. Even if it's once a year, instead of several times a year. Do what you can if this is your way to give back.
- I'll be honest and let you know that I haven't donated blood for several years because the last 3 times that I tried, my hemoglobin count was low. Veins were good, I was well hydrated. I made sure that I had eaten iron-rich foods, an hour or so before I was scheduled to donate. Advice given to me by the nurses and intake personnel. I haven't had a problem before that, so who knows. I just haven't felt like waiting around for 1.5 hours just to find out that I couldn't give blood. I'll go back sometime though.
-Donating blood isn't as bad as one might expect. It's pretty quick and painless. As long as you have decent veins. So you don't have to worry about veins collapsing.
-Your hydrated beforehand. The blood flows more quickly.
-Of course the nurse is efficient with the placement of the needle. If you feel any pain or discomfort, which you shouldn't, let them know. They can adjust the needle to make it a more comfortable experience. If it's not pleasant many of us will not go back.
-It's an an excuse to not do any heavy lifting at home for the rest of the day. Come on, I'm not the only one who's done this. "I gave blood today, so I have to rest tonight."
-And lastly, the water, cookies, or juice that is offered afterwards. I felt like I was in nursery school again at snack time.
- I saw the cutest baby Robin this morning. Just sitting on the railing, for a good 10 minutes. I think it was freshly kicked out of the nest. It still had a few fuzz fluffs, on top of it's head and a lot of spots remaining. No parents were in sight. I think it was bewildered and probably hoping that someone would bring it breakfast. I had to break the news to the poor thing, in between the yawns and sleepy eyes. "If you want to eat, you better put your ear to the ground and start picking. Or you will starve. The days of room service are over." Poor thing. Just looked lost. A few fuzzy pics below, annoying to me, I don't think I was awake enough to get my focus on point. But enjoy!
- Loving this June weather. Not too hot, with nice winds, most days. It is slowing down my pot garden growth, but last years growth was slow as well. Although, according to this mornings forecast the hot weather will be rolling in this weekend. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. How's the weather where you live?
Have a great Friday/weekend!
