• The composts are starting to get my attention, now that the weather is slowly warming up. It rained most of last week, on and off throughout the days, so I left the compost lids off to catch all of the free water. Why run the garden hose, which isn't out of the shed yet, when natures waters things for free?

I know, not pretty but the results are going to be beautiful
 • The rhubarb is popping through the earth. An annual that I have to pick my brain to figure out what to do with the abundance. I still have chutney that I made last summer, from the second cutting. The first cutting was given to our next door neighbour. What else can I do with rhubarb, that doesn't involve pie? Jam maybe? I hate to let it go to waste. Food is food.

 • I need to get a move on the herbs, tomatoes, peas, greens and whatever else I can think of. So much more economical then buying from the store and I know, for the most part, what is in the soil, water, etc.

Anyone else composting or gardening this spring and summer?

 • Update on Rehtaeh Parsons case. An independent inquiry will now occur, by the office of the Premier (Darrell Dexter) of Nova Scotia. I was never big on signing petitions until a few years ago, but I like to think that they do help. My original blog post.

The Premier of Nova Scotia has responded to a 424,770 signature petition started by Sherri Bain, a family friend of the Parsons, --www.change.org/rehtaeh -- demanding an independent inquiry into police actions in Rehtaeh’s case. Today the Premier’s office called Sherri to tell her that they would be announcing an independent review into police and the public prosecution service’s actions in Rehtaeh’s case.

Sherri says “Something is going to change because of this, for Rehtaeh, for her family and friends who will live with this tragedy forever, and for the countless girls and women around the world who are victims of both sexual assault and a culture that tells them that it's their fault.”

Till next time,
